Largest Increase of Canada’s Population in 66 Years

Inmigración Canadiense could confirm that Canada has just recorded its largest increase in population in 66 years. The country’s population has grown by more than 430,000 during the third quarter of 2023, indicating the fastest pace of population growth in any quarter since 1957.

According to the reports from Statistics Canada, the Canadian population was already more than 40.5 million on October 1, 2023. The agency says the population growth between January and September 2023 surpassed the total population growth recorded in any other full year.

Inmigración Canadiense also established that international migration has been the major source fueling population growth in Canada.

It could be confirmed that more than 313,000 non-permanent residents moved to the country between July and September 2023.

Experts’ opinion on Canada’s population growth

Non-permanent residents moving to Canada have contributed largely to the population growth. According to Inmigración Canadiense, these non-permanent residents include immigrants with work permits and study permits and some refugee claimants.

Several experts have started sharing their thoughts on what this population growth can do to the economy and living conditions of Canadians if it is left unchecked.

For example, the strong pace of population growth in Canada could erode housing affordability since the country is struggling to ramp up home construction.

Some experts could also establish that there are definitely some advantages of this rising population due to immigration in terms of economic growth, increased workforce, and counteracting an aging population.

However, Inmigración Canadiense could confirm that it’s adding pressure to a housing market that is currently facing various challenges such as zoning restrictions and a shortage of construction workers.
